Endodontic treatment has tended to more conservative access as well as canal instrumentation. This has been geared to preserve as much tooth structure within the root and specifically the cervical region of the tooth, taking on a restorative-driven approach. Long-term treatment outcome is not just dependent on identifying the canals, instrumenting them and obturating those canals to the apex, but on restoration of that tooth to allow functional loading over time without structural failure.
