In an unexpected announcement on Thursday, the CDC announced new guidance on COVID-19 precautions: fully-vaccinated individuals can go maskless and forgo social distancing (in most settings). The surprise announcement comes as The New York Times reports that vaccination rates have slowed down with a 38% decrease in vaccinations per day when compared to mid-April rates. It is important to note: the new CDC guidance still recommends masks to be worn in healthcare settings, on public transportation, and in schools regardless of vaccination status.
